Get the Beta of Aegis Kitchen Coach. Free to download and use while it is in Beta — every feature, no charge and no license key.
Aegis Kitchen Coach for Linux is available as a Snap package across all major distributions, or as a standalone Debian/Ubuntu (.deb) package.
Option 1: Snap Package
Install Aegis Kitchen Coach directly from the Snap Store:
Or run the following command in your terminal:
The Snap is currently published on the Store's beta channel, so the
--beta flag is needed.
To import and export recipes and PDFs on USB drives, also run this once:
The Snap updates itself automatically as new versions are published.
Option 2: Debian / Ubuntu (.deb)
1. Download the .deb package using the button above, then open your terminal.
2. Navigate to your Downloads folder:
3. Install the package using apt (recommended):
Note: using sudo apt install will automatically pull in any required system
dependencies. The package bundles its own Python environment.
The meal assistant, AI recipe drafts and the Ask Aegis panel use a language model running on your own computer through Ollama. Install Ollama (see our Ollama setup guide), then pull the default model:
The default model runs on an 8 GB laptop without a GPU, taking several seconds per reply. On a
slower machine choose qwen2.5:3b in Configure. The app checks Ollama on first start
and explains anything that is missing.
Optional extras: ollama pull nomic-embed-text for smart search by meaning, and
ollama pull qwen2.5vl:7b to recognize ingredients in a photo (vision models need
more memory and are slow on a CPU).
Ollama is optional: everything except the meal assistant, AI drafts, smart search and the photo reader works without it.
Launch Aegis Kitchen Coach from your applications menu, add the people you cook for in Settings → Household, then choose Cook a meal now, Explore recipes or Plan for the week. See the documentation for meal planning, shopping, cooking on your phone and printing.
To cook on your phone, the phone must be on the same Wi-Fi as your computer.
Your recipes are stored in ~/.aegiskitchencoach/ (with the Snap:
~/snap/aegiskitchencoach/current/.aegiskitchencoach/) and are kept when the package is
removed or updated.
