Aegis MoneyScope for Linux is available as a Snap package across all major distributions, or as a standalone Debian/Ubuntu (.deb) package.
Option 1: Snap Package
Install Aegis MoneyScope directly from the Snap Store:
Or run the following command in your terminal:
To open statement files on USB drives, also run this once:
The Snap updates itself automatically as new versions are published.
Option 2: Debian / Ubuntu (.deb)
1. Download the .deb package using the button above, then open your terminal.
2. Navigate to your Downloads folder:
3. Install the package using apt (recommended):
Note: using sudo apt install will automatically pull in any required system
dependencies. The package bundles its own Python environment.
Reading unusual PDF layouts, AI categorization, the AI Advisor and cash-flow explanations use a language model running on your own computer through Ollama. Install Ollama (see our Ollama setup guide):
Then pull the default model (about 9 GB, needs roughly 16 GB of RAM):
On a computer with less memory, pull qwen2.5:7b (about 4.7 GB, roughly 8 GB of RAM)
and select it under Configure → LLM Settings. A GPU makes answers much faster but isn't
required. The app checks Ollama on first start and explains anything that is missing.
Without Ollama, OFX/QFX/CSV imports, rule-based categorization and every Analytics view still work.
Launch Aegis MoneyScope from your applications menu (Office → Finance) and drag a few months of statements onto the Accounts panel. Where your bank offers it, download OFX/QFX or CSV — they're exact, instant and don't need the AI model. See the documentation for more.
Your data is stored in ~/.aegismoneyscope/ (with the Snap:
~/snap/aegismoneyscope/current/.aegismoneyscope/) and is kept when the package is removed
or updated.
