Getting Started with Photo Voyager

Download & Install the Application

First, obtain the installation package matching your operating system. Because Aegis Photo Voyager runs 100% locally and packages high-performance indexing/AI drivers, the initial package contains everything you need to run out-of-the-box.

Set up Local AI (Ollama)

Aegis Photo Voyager uses your native GPU or CPU to analyze and enrich photos. To enable AI categorization, tag generation, and smart search, you will need to run the open-source inference engine Ollama locally on your machine.

1. Install Ollama

Download and install Ollama for your OS from ollama.com.

2. Download the Vision Model

Open your terminal or command prompt and run the following command to download the default Granite vision model:

Note: Voyager expects the Ollama API to be active on its default port: http://localhost:11434.

Discover Your Media Library

Launch Aegis Photo Voyager. The app needs to know where your photos are stored so it can build a secure, local database index.

• Click Configure Folders in the sidebar or setup wizard.
• Add the directories containing your image and video collections.
• Initiate the Auto Sequence. The application will scan your files, extract EXIF metadata (locations, timestamps, camera profiles), generate thumbnail proxies for smooth scrolling, and utilize your local Ollama instance to analyze your pictures.

Explore & Query Privately

Once indexing is completed, your entire library is at your command—with zero data harvesting or cloud uploads:

• Smart Filtering: Use the sidebar categories, moods, objects, or location tags to drill down.
• Interactive Map: Hover over clusters to see rotating previews of photos taken in specific cities or regions.
• Timeline Rail: Jump back and forth in time using the quick scrollbar on the right of your library grid.
